High-Tech Shopping  gets the job done!

High-Tech Shopping Experiences

In magazines and on websites dealing with retail businesses I’ve seen the phrase come up often enough in recent years that it bears reuse even if cliché: “The death of retail shopping has been greatly exaggerated.” I think the reason people still shop is because they want to try before they buy, to see and feel and hold and smell if necessary, before they part with their dear money - which in most cases people are perfectly willing to do if they have been made to want the item they’re holding.

Technology broadens the reach of tangible experience. Virtual reality, artificial intelligence, smart devices and near-instantaneous delivery to any point on the globe via GPS are some of the technologies employed in pursuit of business enterprises. The coming technological revolution of 5G may even add to that vocabulary.

In large part that future is now. Check out some of the high-tech shopping experiences that are already bringing brick-and-mortar stores into the 21st century (and, ultimately, retaining viability).

Nike - opened a store in NYC to allow the public to utilize its high-tech shoe-development equipment in real time, designing customized shoes with professional designers. See https://econsultancy.com/nikes-new-nyc-store-offers-customized-shopping-experience

Bluemercury - installed an artificial-intelligence (AI) mirror in its Manhattan store, dubbed BluemercuryConnect. Allows social media shopping, bag-less shopping, and on-the-go delivery anywhere in Manhattan. See Barry Beck, Founder and COO, Bluemercury

Farfetch - opened a store in London to unite real-world and on-line shopping experiences using data collection to form a virtual reality (VR) that engages a market’s consumers as an experiential conduit. See https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/farfetch-announces-store-of-the-future

There are in fact a multitude of other advancements - whole lists of novel, futuristic highly advanced technology-driven retail shopping experiences coming to a formerly old-fashioned store near you (see https://www.thestorefront.com/mag/7-case-studies-prove-experiential-retail-future and https://econsultancy.com/examples-digital-technology-in-retail-stores), so consumers now anticipate the next big thing to that brings them in.
